How to Choose a Wood Chipper

Wood chipper is a popular machine with big capacity; it is very widely used in different fields.

By structure the wood chippers can be divided into drum wood chipper and disc wood chipper.

Disc wood chipper – as can see from its name, it has a disc with knives.

As the below pic shows, when the disc is rotating, the knives will cut logs into pieces. There is also wood chipping crusher, which also has hammers after disc. Can chip and crush the wood at the same time. This wood chipping crusher usually is used for small size long shape material, like branches.

Drum wood chipper is used more. It can accept huge amount of raw material at once, and the capacity is big. Not only for wood, but also other materials: paper, plastic, even some kinds of rubbish.

Drum wood chipper has blade with knives, the cutting direction is different from disc wood chipper. Depend on different needs; we can add knives on the blade, to achieve smaller chips.

If you want to make wood chips, but have no idea or unclear which model to buy, you can think about these questions:

  1. What’s your material?

Are they round, hard, irregular shape, or soft?

  1. What’s your capacity?

If you r materials are small, you can decide the model by how mangy kgs you want to make per hour.

  1. What the biggest size of your raw material.

It is an important question. Sometimes even you don’t need to have a big capacity, but small model can’t work with your material. So you have to choose a bigger one.

  1. What the output size you want to get

Usually the wood chips don’t need to be chipped very small. But for different size the chipping time is different, so the capacity is also different. The standard chips are about 35mm, if you want smaller, should confirm with the wood chipper factory.
